I salute all the Nnewi people living in the DFW area and pray that success and good health will remain our portion. My greatest appreciation is reserved for the Nnewi Union executive members who have stepped up their involvement in the meetings and the activities assigned to them.
We are blessed by the name of the Almighty for the privilege to be where we are today and call upon our redeeming GOD to frustrate the evil machinations of our detractors.
In March, we celebrated the dedication of Iyke and Ify Enemo’s daughter Chimkasi Chiamaka Elizabeth Enemo to her Lord and Savior.Following in the footsteps of this was the submission of the list of twenty five members to ICAN, our umbrella Igbo organization in DFW.
The month of April has been marked by a couple of tragic events visited on notable members of Nnewi,USA. One of our members, Mr Jasper Ileka lost his son, Mr Peter Ileka while Sir Goddy and Lady Ngozi Agbasi lost their son,Obinna Agbasi who was living in Houston with his family. Most of you know that Chief Goddy Agbasi,Enyi kwun’azu ,Nnewi is one of the most respected elders of Nnewi heritage living in USA.
We pray that Almighty God will afford them the strength to deal with their huge losses. We must continue to pray fervently that God in His Infinite Mercy will bring a screeching halt to the storms of death against Nnewi families. For those of you who may want to call and give their support to these hurting families during these difficult times, you can call Dr.Jasper Ileka @ 401-837-7793 and Sir Goddy Agbasi @ 832-314-5633.
At the outset of this month, precisely on Good Friday, April 3 2015,our very own ,Felix Anosike and his wife Ijeoma were blessed with a healthy baby boy, Chinua. We wish both parents well and pray for the continued health of Chinua and his mother, Ijeoma.
We cannot forget our amiable and intelligent brother,Nnaerika Okonkwo ,son of the eminent Igbo trader of Nnewi extraction ,Chief Felix Ezejiofor Okonkwo (Okonkwo Kano) who celebrated his 60th Birthday on Friday April 17,2015.May you live as long as Methuselah and love as long as you live.
The planning of this year’s Nnewi USA convention taking place in New York from July 23-26,2015 has reached its final stage and you cannot even think of missing this big event. I urge as many of our members as can make it to start their preparation now. The Big Apple or as my friend calls it,the city that is so nice that they named it twice, “New York, New York” is waiting for our arrival so let us meet there in late July for fun. Please come and make your voices heard in the midst of other Nnewi people living in USA and beyond.
A lot of very important issues will be discussed including the construction of the proposed NUSA sponsored Nnewi Public Library.
At long last, the current NUSA executive ably led by Chidi Metu Esq. has succeeded in securing four plots of land in Okpunoeze,Uruagu Nnewi courtesy of Igwe of Nnewi, the three Obi’s of Uruagu,Umudim and Nnewichi and Nzuko Ora Nnewi for the construction of this longstanding project. The installation of the big signpost, fencing of the site and the erection of the main gate have commenced in earnest prior to the main construction which is scheduled to start later this year.
I appeal to our Nnewi brothers and sisters resident in the DFW area to close ranks and continue to be actively involved in our meetings and event planning. We are stronger when everyone is recognized and heard insofar as the ultimate aim is to build and not to destroy.
We have started active planning for the Nnewi day celebration in 2016 under the able chairmanship of Arunne Momah, the details of which will soon be made available to all.
May I crave your indulgence to introduce two Nnewi sons who are relatively new to the area, Pius T Moneke of Ndimbgbu,Otolo Nnewi and Mike Anazodo, of Mbanagu, Otolo,Nnewi.Kindly reach out to them at your earliest conveneience. Call me if you need their numbers.
May God bless and protect us. We wish our college sons and daughters resounding success as they prepare for their final exams in May.
